    Assorted Russia, Part 43

Posted on January 11, 2012 by kulichik

The incident took place on December 31. People actually saw a man crossing the Volga river covered with a thin layer of ice.

This is where the river makes a turn.

There were no severe frosts and the river didn’t cover with a thick layer of ice yet.

Ice was not present everywhere on the mirror-like surface but the man had no problem while walking.

When the man reached the land we asked him about the purpose of his action. He said that he had wanted to get an adrenaline rush.

Meanwhile, around 200 people drown every winter in the nearby region as the current here is very strong.

Unknown people decorated the riser block of flats in the style of Super Mario games. Just don’t start collecting coins while going upstairs.

It happens in Russia that grave-diggers fill a tomb with water right before the funerals. Then relatives of the died person have to buy the adjacent grave not to put the corpse into mud.

Grave-diggers of an ancient Uzbek city Margelan don’t know about such tricks. First graves here appeared in the 9th century. The cemetery had been closed until one of its walls was shifted 6 meters high.

The temperature reaches +40 degrees Celsius in summer. The grave-digger Ulmas who is 60 years old is preparing a new grave for one of the richest people of the city.

Ulmas lives at the cemetery. When he dies, there won’t be any space for his body left here.

The Uzbeks are Muslims. Ulmas needs to make a hole that will be 2 meters deep and scoop some space for the body down the hole. The body will be buried covered with a tissue, no coffin is needed. Bricks will block the entrance to the grave. When relatives of the died person expire, the grave will be opened and the bodies will occupy their places in the grave.

That was supposed to be a toy of Winnie-the-Pooh.

    Why would it be green?

And what kind of ears were that? Hello Vinnie the Shrek!

Winter, the mid- 1980′s in Chicagoland; lake Michigan froze over for the first time in a hundred years and 3 idiots decided to take a walk across from Chicago to Michigan. They got a coupla miles offshore when the Coast Guard went on full alert and sent a helicopter to pick them up. It’s not reported if they also transported the beer back with them but people do some stupid things at times.
